In the beginning of the 20th century, two of the then most popular media - postcard and shellac record - were combined and marketed under the term audio picture postcard. Poems and short pieces of music were found on the postcards alongside various illustrations. These are rectangular images (a coated cardboard in A5 or A6 format with grooves and a centered hole) that can be played on any commercially available record player.

The series is produced with the Vinylograph(an automated vinyl cutting machine inspired by record booths from 40es), developed by Natascha Muhic and Christoph Freidhöfer (www.vinylograph.com).

PIAAFOA was chosen from a small selection of artists to join the Tonbildpostkarten project.
